North East Exporters Awards - A Great Success!!

The North East’s heroes of export were unveiled on Thursday 16th July as the region paid tribute to the winners of the North East Exporters Awards 2009 at a special gala dinner organised by Meridian.
More than 300 guests, including leading figures in the world of business, gathered at the Hilton Hotel, Gateshead for the celebration dinner, sponsored by HSBC.
The climax of the event was the presentation of the annual awards, sponsored by UK Trade & Investment, One North East, the North East Chamber of Commerce (NECC) and HSBC, which recognise the efforts of individuals who have helped their companies boost its international sales performance. The winners were:
New Exporter Award- for the individual new to exporting who demonstrates exceptional achievement, this could be with a company new to exporting or an existing exporter – Andy Hatton, Technical Director at Global Anodes UK Ltd, Billingham.
Export Achievement Award- for the individual who has shown exceptional personal achievement in international trade to the benefit of the North East – Paul Rowe, Managing Director at Wessington Cryogenics Ltd, Houghton-le-Spring.
Innovation in Export Award– for the individual engaged in international trade who can demonstrate added value to their company through innovation such as product design, management systems, logistics, innovative technology – Alan Richardson, Contracts/Export Manager at Hart Door Systems Ltd, Newcastle.
Export Communicator Award– for the individual who can demonstrate how the application of his/her language skills has increased business performance in international trade – Julie Morris, Sales Manager at Perry Process Equipment Ltd, Newton Aycliffe.
Passport to Export Award– for an individual who has worked with an International Trade Adviser to develop an Export Action Plan that has resulted in commercial success in their target market – Peter Claes, Director at Catalytic Technology Management Ltd, Saltburn.
TV presenter Wendy Gibson was “Master of Ceremonies” for the evening which included a drinks reception, dinner and awards ceremony, with Dominic Jermey, Managing Director of UK Trade & Investment Sectors Group, as key note speaker and serial entrepreneur BJ Cunningham as after dinner speaker. Grace House Children’s Hospice Appeal was the designated charity for the evening and the guests helped raise around £2,500 for the charity.
